Welcome Aaron!

Meet Aaron, Zero Point Motion’s Lead MEMS Engineer who will be heading our MEMS design, strategy and implementation.

At Zero Point Motion, Aaron will focus on the design, verification and validation of the MEMS structure, working closely with the Photonics and Control teams.

Aaron studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Waterloo, where his graduate studies focussed on fluidic engine mounts. He then joined Zyvex Corporation where his MEMS journey began with the design, FEA analysis and testing of various actuation and assembly structures fabricated in both surface and SOI-based technologies. His contributions were key to a research grant in micro assembly.  Whilst at Zyvex, Aaron authored a book chapter on electrothermal actuation and simulation.

With 15 years’ experience at NXP Semiconductors as a Principal Engineer and later MEMS Design Manager, Aaron was instrumental in developing the MEMS design and verification processes. Initially his worked focused on advancing airbag accelerometer designs and later moving into gyroscope design for automotive stability control. Over the last 18 months, Aaron managed the sensor design team at NXP Semiconductors overseeing accelerometer, gyroscope and pressure sensor design and verification.

On why he was attracted to working at Zero Point Motion, Aaron said, “after having discussions with Lia and understanding the technology in more detail, especially the benefits of optically enhanced transduction, I recognized the unique MEMS design approaches that can be implemented for this method of inertial sensing.” Aside from the technical challenge, on a personal level, Aaron said “I am attracted to the life experience of moving to a vibrant city in the UK, and the unique opportunity and challenge in front of me.”

In his free time, Aaron enjoys all sort of exercising, especially running and mountain biking, and is excited about living near large bodies of water again.
