Zero Point Motion attended EOSAM

Between 11th and 15th September, EOSAM – the European Optical Society Annual Meeting - took place in Dijon, France. Zero Point Motion Founder & CEO Lia Li and MOEMS Engineer David Payne attended to find out the latest news in photonics and the future directions of the industry.

EOSAM covers all aspects of optics and photonics including compound semiconductor, photonic integrated circuit and sensor technologies and brings together researchers from academia with industry experts.

Lia gave an invited talk titled: “Hybrid Integration of MEMS and PICs for Inertial Sensing”, reporting on our recent progress going towards an integrated device.

Zero Point Motion inertial sensors benefit from lower noise optical readout by implementing a photonic integrated circuit for the sensing mechanism. This enables the inertial sensors to be used for position and tracking of drones in environments where GNSS signals are deteriorated or denied, such as indoors (warehousing, factories) or underwater or underground.

Talking about the event, “The photonics industry has progressed significantly in the past few years,” said David “in particular the areas which will benefit inertial sensor development such as laser and detector integration and manufacturing yield improvements.”
